Maiden Voyage

(at some point I promise to stop posting about my kayak.... but for now.....)

Yesterday as soon as I finished work, I ran across the parking lot to my house, changed, loaded my kayak, and headed to the river for my maiden voyage. The loading and off loading is so much easier with my new one person versus the two person that Chi Alpha has. Mine is so light and easy to pick up.

I got to the river, headed down to the dock, and dropped it in the water. Then came the challenge of how to actually get in the boat. As I attempted this, two guys in a boat slowly drove by and laughed and watched. With a bit of challenge I (and some water) got in. I then sat in said water the rest of the trip, making for very wet shorts. Oh well, I'll get better with practice.

I must say it was vastly different being my my little light one person and being in the big two person. This one handles so easily and is also very easily swayed by the current and wind. It took some massive getting used to. But it was a beautiful day!!! Nice breeze, high of 80 degrees, and bright sunny skies. Beautiful!! It was a little windy and the river was rougher than normal. (It makes me think of some novel beginning.... "The sea was angry that day...")

Getting out of the kayak in the end was also a challenge. This time I decided to paddle up the boat launch and try to get out there. Again my shorts got even wetter, but it was a bit easier. I will conquer and figure this out soon without soaking my shorts and myself.

Overall it was a fantastic maiden voyage and I'm super excited about the new relationship I have with my kayak. We shall be the best of friends!!!!

Until then......
