Postal System

I am currently rather aggravated at the U.S. Postal system! Part of my job as a missionary with the Assemblies of God is to raise financial support to sustain me during my time of ministry. (In other words, I find people to pledge to be a part of my financial support team that comprises my salary each month). The way in which this is done, is by sending letters out to people whom I know and letting them know what I am currently doing and asking for a chance to sit and share my ministry and financial partnership needs with them. I then follow up with a phone call which hopefully leads to an appointment to talk with them.

I have been doing this over the past month or two now. And within the last few weeks I have had two different people in two different states tell me that they never got my letter. This is seriously aggravating. Because they did not receive my letter, I know have to explain over the phone what I am calling about. This doesn't seem like that big of a deal, other than the fact that what was a finely worded letter now has to come out of my mouth (off the top of my head of course) within in a few brief moments on the phone.

This really began to aggravate me when I sent a letter to some family friends whom I would really have liked to get to share my vision with. However since they did not get me letter, I had to try and explain briefly over the phone. Because I am new at this and not knowing what to do in that case, I don't think I did the best job of explaining. And now instead of a monthly partnership, they are doing a one time donation. Please don't misunderstand me here. I am incredibly grateful for one time donations as well, because this is also part of my job. I just feel like that if the system had flowed well, the out come could have been a more long term commitment.

Darn you postal system! (but thanks for coming through on all my other deliveries) I guess this is yet another curve and yet another lesson learned in the life of missionary work and support raising. Hopefully I will be better prepared from here on out when it comes to situation.

until then ......
