Excellence

Back in March we hosted a statewide Chi Alpha leadership conference. It's a two day event where we have a main speaker and than various breakout sessions during the two days. I had the privilege to teach one of those sessions this year. My class was entitled "Surpassing Ordinary Standards: Incorporating Excellence Into Your Life."

I thoroughly enjoyed challenging students to incorporate excellence into their lives. My mother always told me to be whatever I wanted to be, just be the best at it. I've always taken that motto to heart. Do whatever you want, but do it with excellence. It was great to share with students that excellence doesn't mean perfection, it simply means putting 110% into all that you do.

I feel that in my work, I work with excellence. I do my job and I don't slack on things (this doesn't mean I don't slack in the office some days, it means that I accomplish my tasks with excellence and if there is room to goof-off, I do that excellently as well!). However I was taken aback the other day when talk with one of our students. She was telling me about having lunch with a new students and she mentioned that this new girl truly lives a life of excellence. She went on to say that in the way she dresses, the way she eats, the way she takes care of herself, in her time with God, all of it she does with excellence. I began to think about my life in those ways and wonder am I truly living a life of excellence. Unfortunately my response is no.

I feel there are definitely areas that I am qualified to talk about excellence. However this week as I examine my life, there are definitely areas where I need to incorporate some excellence into my life. That's the thing about life, there is always room for reflection and improvement.

Until then......
