Relationship

This morning in church I was thinking about relationship with God. I think it was during communion or maybe worship, but at some point I realized something pretty big about being in relationship with God.

The reason that Jesus died was so that we are able to have relationship with God. We are all sinners and have things in our lives that keep us from God. No matter who we are, what profession we have, or what path we have walked in our lives... we are all sinners and need Jesus in order to have relationship with God.

If we look at Jesus' death through that lens, then to not actively pursue relationship with God is to completely disregard what Jesus did on the cross. If we say that we accept Jesus and understand what He did and believe in Him, then we must be pursuing relationship. If we don't value and pursue relationship with God then there is no way that we truly value and understand what Jesus did for us. If we grasp the reason why he died on the cross then we should be running full force toward an ever deepening relationship with God. Jesus didn't die so that we can just know about God, but He died so that we may know God. There's a massive difference and to just lay aside relationship with God is to dismiss and take lightly the great price that Jesus paid to make a way for us to know God.

I know this. I mean I really know this. But still there are days that I too belittle and disregard what Jesus did by simply casting aside my relationship with God. Wow. That's hard to swallow. Hard to admit. But yet so true.

Until then......
