Pherhaps I'll Stick It Out

A friend of mine stopped by my house a couple of weeks ago and mentioned that she had recently begun running and wanted me to join her for a 5k sometime this year. She knew that I liked to run and thus thought we should tackle this together. My first response was no!

Don't get me wrong, I love a good run. In high school I ran a fair amount while training with a soccer team in the off-season (I never played, just ran in the off-season with friends). Then in college I would run for stress relief and sanity. Especially my senior year in college I ran a lot. I do enjoy running, but the consistency is not always my best.

For some reason though, I found myself online last night and looking for a 5k to run in the fall. I like the idea of it. I like the idea of pushing myself to do something for me. It's healthy and fun and for me at this point it seems like a great accomplishment to push towards.

So we're looking at a 5k in the middle of October and I started running tonight. Now keep in mind, I've run one day and have about two months until the 5k. I may not make it until then, but I'd really like to try. I'd like to stick this out and cross a finish line. Not for competitive reasons, but just for the accomplishment.

Now I just need to set me a schedule for running. My favorite time to run is late at night. Tonight I set out to run about 11:15pm. I would love to tackle an early morning running schedule, but I fear that may be too much for me for now. So for the time being, I'll stick to evening or late night runs. Maybe after the consistency of running for a bit, I'll try to shift to a morning schedule.

Until then......

I want to start running more too! I just went to a lecture Thursday from a guy that coaches marathon, half marathon and 5k runners. He had lots of great tips and advice and it made me more motivated. Lets catch up soon, I'd love to share!!!
