Loving Life

Can I just say that I love my job! I make a ridiculously small amount of money and work and insane number of hours (70 hours a week at approximately $3.30per hour) and I love my job! I get to hang out with college students all day and night, talk about God, and see their lives changed! Who wouldn't want to do this? Really!!!

Last Friday night for International dinner and a discussion I lead a discussion group with one other American, a guy from Cameroon, and two guys from Iran. The guy from Cameroon and the other American and myself are all Christians. The two guys from Iran are not, but asked a lot of questions. We talked about the story of the rich young ruler. When I asked the question in the end about what is necessary for eternal life, one of the Iran guys answered first and said to follow Jesus is necessary. He doesn't follow Jesus yet, but he's got lots of questions and so did the other guy. I love my job!

On Wednesday afternoons I meet one on one with a couple of the girls I am discipling this year. One of them couldn't meet this week, so my other girl and I decided to spend the afternoon kayaking. We paddled out to the middle of an open area, talked about God, read about the resurrection of Jesus, and sat in the boat and journaled prayers for a while. Are you kidding? This is part of my job? I love it!

That same evening for Bible study we decided to sit in the sand volleyball court and discuss Easter and what it really means. Beautiful weather with a cool breeze, sitting in the sand talking bout God with college students. Really!?!

Thursday evening was the start of Spring Break for our students. We still had a Thursday night service as usual, just a smaller version. Because it was a smaller version in our building instead of campus and because everyone was in spring break mode, I showed up in my basketball shorts and hoodie (with my Partridge Family t-shirt on underneath). I love a job where I can show up in my hoodie and shorts some days! And to officially kick off spring break, after service we played sand volleyball for a few hours. As part of my job, I got to hang out and play sand volleyball until 11:00 at night. Again I reiterate, I love my job!

Yes the hours are long and the pay is very small, but the impact on eternity and the life changing conversations that I get to have all over the place are well worth it. The variety that I have in my daily activities and the life and purpose in all that I do fit me to a "T". It never ceases to amaze me when I look at my job and I look at who I am, and I realize that God completely made me for this job. Over 26 years ago when God knit me together in my mother's womb, He knit me together for this job. How amazing is that?? Really!!??!!

Until then......
