My second year in South Africa I got a hot water bottle. It was a gift from my church at our family weekend retreat. I used it a good bit while living in South Africa due to the cold and the lack of indoor heating. Once I moved back to America I didn't use it much.
However after my move to Lafayette, I've begun using it again. I have used it this winter as my room is quite drafty and stays rather cold at night. The hot water bottle is amazing to put in the foot of my bed as I go to sleep!
This past week I have used it like a heating pad. I woke up Friday morning with what felt like a migraine starting. As I took pretty much everything I could find, I realized that this "migraine" was starting in my shoulder and creeping up my neck, so I spent a good bit of the afternoon and evening lying down with a hot water bottle on it.
Saturday I had a small bit of the headache remaining, but not enough to bother me. Today however my neck and shoulder are extremely sore. I guess it was some sort of tension knot or something that finally worked itself out and now it's all sore. So today I am hanging out with my hot water bottle. Luckily I had a whole bunch of reading I had to do anyway today, so instead of being at my desk, I am able to hang out on the couch with my book and hot water bottle.
I really think the use of the hot water bottle is a lost art in America. It is indeed amazing!

Until then......
