I wish this post were in relation to Fall weather... because that is a type of glorious that I would near about do anything for right now. Instead I am talking about the glorious time of year where students swarm back to campus and life is breathed back in to our ministry and our lives.
The summer has it's own rhythm and routine. It's still solid and plenty to do, but not overwhelming and when you are used to 75% of your year being overwhelmingly busy, then a normal pace just seems boring.
During the summer people in the house leave a lot and they travel and go on missions trips and vacations and go home a lot. So the house is calm and quiet and not unusual to be alone in. It's this time of year where everyone moves out from the summer and in for the fall and interns arrive and all of a sudden my house is like a bee hive. Last year I asked one of the housemates why there were so many people in my kitchen and non of them were leaving. His response "they live here now." Right.... it takes a few days to readjust to that.
The office is very much the same. And even more extreme. We go from just service on Thursday nights and two lifegroups to an event nearly everyday for about 6 weeks straight and so much more. There's about 20 lifegroups each week along with sixteen iTeams, Thursday Night Live, Athletic Bible Study, Free Meal, SLCC, etc, etc. It is Glorious!
This weekend we hosted the entire UL football team twice. They came in Saturday night to have dinner and do karaoke. And Sunday they came in for Chapel service and lunch. Today we fed the housing staff and Hall directors from campus. We're also helping to move students in to their dorm rooms everyday this week. And I will be at SLCC from 7:00am until 5:00pm the rest of the week to help out with registration and financial aid. Busy? Nah..... just Glorious Fall time!!!
In all sincerity, pray for us during this time. Pray for student connections and Divine appointments. There are 17,000 students on campus. We want to know and reach every single one of them. Thus we stay busy. Pray that our busyness wouldn't just be busy but that it would be effective and fruitful!
Until then......
