I've realized in life that the first 30 mins I am asleep is the most crucial to me falling asleep. After the first 30 minutes or so I am a rock solid sleeper and am not super easily woken up. However I've realized that during the first 30 minutes of me being asleep I am super easily woken up and then take forever to get back to sleep. This used to not be the case and once I was asleep I was out like a light. This also meant I could nap for hours. However now, if I don't make it past the first 30 minutes without waking up, I have no hope.
