Slower Pace

Last week was my first week back running after a four week hiatus due to illness. Because I missed both of my projected 5ks due to being sick, I am now shooting for a 5k in February. I don't have a specific one yet, but will be on the lookout.

When I stopped running I was around 2 miles per night. For now I have decided to drop back and stick to one mile in order to hammer out some kinks in my basic form.... mainly my breathing.... ok only my breathing. I've always known that I don't breathe correctly when I'm running. I don't breathe deep enough or exhale long enough. I pretty much just run around gasping for air. No wonder I'm not increasing my distance, my lungs can't sustain me.

So for now I'm sticking with just a mile a night and focusing on my breathing. It's reminding me that in life if you don't have the basics down, then you can't build anything else on top of it. And also that sometimes the answer is as simple as "breathing in and breathing out." I love learning life application while running! It's like therapy!!!

Until then......
