Our team left bright and early on Wednesday morning and began our journey to Africa. We flew from Houston on Wednesday afternoon and reached London Thursday morning. We had twelve hours in London and so the sight seeing began.
We got to see Buckingham palace, Westminster Abbey, House of Parliment, Big Ben, Thames River, Picadilly Circus, and so much more! We took the subway into the city from the airport and then traveled by foot for a few hours until we needed to head back. It was great! We even had lunch on a boat on the Thames River. So fun!! I think it was the first time the other fourteen members of our team had been to London.
Thursday night we headed out of London and reached South Africa on Friday morning! We got to the airport, sorted our rental cars, and started our ridiculous journey to Pretoria to the Bed and Breakfast. The directions I printed from Google were absurd and did not help us at all. It was crazy! Also trying to navigate with two other cars following and we had no cell phones. It was interesting to say the least. And the other two drives have never driven in South Africa. But alas we all made it and had a hilarious time trying to get here!
Friday we pretty much just showered, ate, and settled in. We had a great team meeting, got some shopping done, and got some much needed rest. Today (Saturday) we spent all day on campus talking to students, sharing stories, and inviting them to Chi Alpha tonight. Then tonight we had Chi Alpha service on campus and it rocked! One of the campus pastors with us from Louisiana preached and we had a great response time. We even saw lots of students come that we met today. After service we went to dinner and a few South African students came with us. It was a great day!
Being here and having conversations with the campus pastor here reminds me so much of why I love Chi Alpha in South Africa and want to be here long term. It really does have my heart and I love this country and this ministry! It has been an amazing few days so far and I can't wait to see what the rest of the trip has in store for us!!
Until then......
