Rain, Rain, please rain!!

This weekend we had our annual leadership retreat for ULL Chi Alpha student leadership. It was awesome! We headed out to Woodworth on Friday afternoon and just returned today. It was a bit overwhelming at first as I had nearly 40 new people to meet and names to remember. But after just a bit they began to feel like old friends and it was great. I love how no matter what Chi Alpha you are at, you can feel at home. It's great!

Friday night we kicked off with some games, introductions, and a little worship. Worship consisted of one of the staff members with an acoustic guitar and singing. It was a small but powerful time with God. Saturday morning we got up and headed out into the woods to tackle the obstacle course. I love these kinds of things and I loved how all of the activities were geared to teach us about teamwork for the upcoming year. Each obstacle took our entire team working together in order for us to finish it. And the hardest obstacle took the most communication and teamwork and was also the most dangerous if someone quit during it. It really was an awesome way to display how the body of Christ and a leadership team works during a school year. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

That afternoon we talked and dreamed a lot about the upcoming school year. The staff taught about how this year is a marathon and how we must train and prepare for it. I loved the analogy. Saturday evening we found out who our co-leaders are for lifegroups this year and then we wrapped up with a bonfire and games. Today we had calendar time and some great dreaming about the future. It was really encouraging and exciting!

When we got back to the house it was raining and a couple of the student leaders mentioned we should play beach volleyball (we have a beach volleyball pit in the backyard of the Chi Alpha house) in the rain. So six of us hit the court and low and behold it stopped raining shortly after that. So of course we did what all adults would do...... we busted out the sprinklers and played Red Rover and Duck, Duck, Goose in the sprinklers. Yeah I love my job!! It keeps me young!!

I know I keep posting about how excited I am about this year and again I'm going to say it because this weekend got me that way even more. I am excited about this year!! In all honestly I feel like from the time I moved back to Louisiana until I went to Indiana/Virginia, I was in a bit of a desert. It's so nice to be out of that and be having such time and community with God again. I feel like He's spoken so much to me already and I've only been here a week. Probably a lot of what you'll hear from me for this year has to do with what He's saying already. He's talking to me about a life of submission even in the daily things. A life of humility like David lived. About learning what it means to humble myself and how to do that. And a life that is filled with the Holy Spirit in control, making more room for Him. Like I said before, I think this is a year of refining and learning. Learning about life with God even more and learning about campus ministry. Even my mind set was a bit different this weekend. Every talk and activity I was trying to understand the principle behind it and store it away in my 'how to do campus ministry' folder in my mind. I'm almost on thought and information overload (hence why my post lately are so long), but it's all good. Real good!!!

Ok. I'm gonna stop typing for now. But I will leave you with a few highlights from Indiana/Virginia. (and maybe one day I'll upload Lafayette pics.... as soon as I take some!)
