Change of Pace

I love how moving to somewhere new can change your habits and pace of life completely. For instance when I moved to South Africa I didn't own a blow-dryer or straightner (hence I didn't fix my hair) for the first four months. I didn't eat McDondald's for probably six months. And there was so much more that changed. It is funny to see though how eventually we can slip back into our old ways if we aren't pro-active about keeping the changes in our lives.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm glad I went back to fixing my hair, but there are other things that I could have kept as a change in my life that would have been for the better. As in the McDonald's eating habits!

So far since I have been in Lafayette (I mean it has only been a week, but I'm hoping to keep some of the changes already) I have cut back drastically on my coke in take. I'm down to pretty much a can of Diet Coke per day and that's it. I haven't eaten fast food in a week. And really my last fast food was Taco Bell which somehow doesn't seem as bad as the rest. I also haven't watched tv since the move. I may be loving that the most because I now feel like I get more out of my time. I'm not a tv junkie, as in I need it all the time, but I do find if it is available that I will tend to veg out and lose hours of productivity from my day. I think tv for the most part of completely unnecessary and I'm enjoying the current lack of distraction from it.

I think moving is a good way of revamping and changing life and habits. When we are in our day to day life it's so hard to change. But a move allots for all the changes we've been waiting for. I'm enjoying these changes and I hope to maintain them even when the busyness of school starts up. I know for now it's easier because there aren't students around, thus my job is not in full power. Once students come back and my job is in full swing it will take more effort on my part to maintain the changes. Wish me luck!! Until then ......

The week we spend hiking every year does this for me-UNFORTUNATELY-I slip back into Bad Habits VERY easily. I must say the "Fast Food" is not a problem for me-basically only eat it when in an EXTREME tight!
