Baking Cookies and Cleaning Toilets

This year brings so many new challenges for me in ministry. One of the big ones is leading a lifegroup (Bible study) in the on campus apartment complex. I won't go as far as to say that leading in a dorm is easy, but it is easier than an apartment complex.

One of the big issues of leading in this complex is finding somewhere to meet. Neither I or my co-leader live in this complex. So we've been hoping to find someone who is willing to let us use their apartment every Monday night.

Last night we had a karaoke night at Cafe Chi Alpha. There was this one girl that got a standing ovation for her rendition of 'I Will Always Love You.' She simply rocked! She has an incredible voice and was amazing. After the whole show ended another one of our staff members brought this girl over to my co-leader and I and introduced her. Come to find out she lives in the apartment complex.

Of course we talk to her a bit and invite her to lifegroup. She then asks where is it going to be. our response: 'In your apartment.' We had tried this approach with another girl but she seemed a little stand offish. This girl however seemed ok with it. We laughed and joked and told her we were serious and that we would bake cookies and clean her apartment each week if we could meet there. And she's game!!!! Wahoo we have somewhere to meet for lifegroup!!!!!

Tonight we're going door to door in the complex to meet people and invite them to a joint lifegroup function at the complex tomorrow night (there are 2 girl and 2 guy lifegroups in this complex-- our event tomorrow night will include all four groups). We told our new lifegroup member that we'd stop by and see her tonight. My co-leader and I also went and bought cookie dough last night to make this girl some cookies for when we go by today. I'm hoping we don't freak her out by coming on too strong, but we're excited about this girl (and her apartment of course). So it should be fun!

And who doesn't love cookies!! Until then......

If you bake me some cookies AND clean my house, you are welcome ANYTIME! How could she resist that offer? She would not have been at karoke night, if she were not interested. Promise her that as others come, you will try to rotate the meeting by months at other apartments. It's the "Week in Week Out" as I have learned from being a Small Group Leader.
