This week has held quite a few twelve or thirteen hour days for us. But it has been phenomenal. It's been quite a marathon week. Yesterday felt like a massive marathon in itself. We started the day with Operation Move It (moving students into the dorms), then had International Coffee hour at the International Student Office on campus. From there I began painting my room and caulking our bathroom shower. I paused my painting for Chi Alpha International (we host an international student event every Friday night at the Chi Alpha house). And then finished up painting around 12:00 last night.
Today started around 11:00. (Trust me I welcomed the extra sleep this morning). We got to Cafe Chi Alpha this morning in time to set up for the football feed that started at 11:30 this morning. So for lunch today we fed the UL Football team. It was great fun! We had some guys from our local church that came and grilled for us. We fed them and hosted karaoke. This may have been the highlight of my week. The senior football guys got to pick which songs the freshmen sang. So of course they chose the sappy love songs for these massive football guys to get up and sing to each other. It was awesome!
From there we loaded everything up and headed to campus to help host a campus wide BBQ. All the campus ministries gathered to host a BBQ for all the students on campus. There was free food, prizes, games, karaoke, and lots of people to meet. After we got things set up and before the students came, we headed into the dorms to knock on doors and invite students. Overall I think the event went well. There seemed to be lots of students there and our leaders seemed to make some great connections. The school colors for UL are black and red. Because of that we made our Chi Alpha shirts kelly green. It makes spotting a Chi Alpha person in the crowd so easy. Such a smart idea!
After the BBQ we cleaned up and headed back to Cafe Chi Alpha. We got everything off loaded and put away. While the staff was busy doing that, our students had brought a swarm of people back to the house to play volleyball in the sand court. It was awesome!
All that to say it's been a long and tiring but seriously effective and worth it week. I love student ministry! I love start up time. It's complete insanity and if I didn't passionately understand what I do, I would passionately hate it. Luckily I know why I do what I do and Who I do it for and so I love it all! I really have an awesome job and love every bit of it! And luckily Eric took pics all day, so here are a few snap shots of the day today. Until then ......
